Retail Projects
FH Martin’s portfolio includes a huge amount of new construction and renovation projects in a variety of retail market segments. Our ability to meet the demanding schedules and strict requirements of national retail clients has enabled us to develop and maintain long-term relationships with a number of prominent retailers, including The Kroger Company and The Home Depot. These relationships have been a significant factor in our expansion to serve markets outside of Michigan. From fast paced “big-box” store construction to smaller, more intricate projects, we have the expertise to make it happen for our clients.
Menards
Various locations throughout Ohio and Michigan.
FH Martin has completed construction of six new Menards stores, including stores in Toledo, Lancaster, Ontario, Massillon and Sandusky, Ohio, and Clio, Michigan. We are currently expanding a Menards store in Elkhart, Indiana.

Plum Market
Bloomfield Township & Ann Arbor, MI
FH Martin completed construction of the first Plum Market in Bloomfield Township, located at Maple Road and Lahser, in early 2007. Plum Market is committed to sourcing the highest quality organic, local, natural and specialty products available.

The store itself - which is 21,000 SF - is designed to have an open market feel. The farmers market features two glass-paned overhead doors that can be opened wide to allow direct access to the store from the outside sidewalk. The entire sales floor is exposed aggregate polished concrete, and there are 30 skylights installed in the roof to bring in natural light. The building support systems such as HVAC ductwork are constructed of exposed galvanized spiral ductwork. There is a completely exposed and open ceiling throughout, and many exposed construction materials such as steel, block, brick and metal studs. The store also features a wine cellar constructed of steel and glass, an old-style circular pizza oven constructed of tile, and a café with a seating area for casual dine-in options.

The store was built within an existing building, in a space formerly occupied by another grocery retailer. The entire interior of the store was demolished and removed to a bare shell, including the concrete floors, all mechanical and electrical systems, and all finishes. The project included a small building addition in the rear of the store, replacement of the storefront, and extensive plumbing, refrigeration and electrical systems to support food preparation and merchandising.

FH Martin completed construction of the second Plum Market, located in the Maple Village Shopping Center in Ann Arbor, in the spring of 2008. The 35,000 SF store was built within a space that was formerly occupied by a multi-screen movie theatre and several retail shops and restaurants.

Fresh Farms Market
Grosse Pointe, Michigan
FH Martin recently completed a complete renovation of Fresh Farms Market, an independently-owned store that has been in business in Grosse Pointe for 67 years. The 6,000 SF store remained open during construction.

Unique features of the project included an acid- stained concrete floor with three different colors, exposed structural and mechanical above 90 percent of the sales floor and a metal pan ceiling over the service counter, to give the store an old-fashioned look.

Completion: February 2007
